SVFD Awarded FEMA Grant
August 17, 2024
On Friday, August 16, the Scioto Valley Fire District was informed that the district was awarded a federal grant of $66,980.95 for the purchase of replacement fire hose, fire nozzles, and water supply appliances through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The AFG program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
The replacement fire hose replaces the attack fire hose that is over 36 years old and supply hose that is over 17 years old. Both attack and supply hose is carried on all fire engines along with a modest reserve supply in each fire station for replacement after a fire response.
The nozzles and appliances replace the fire attack nozzles and water supply appliances that are aged and worn out and also out of NPFA compliance.
The grant award of $66,980.95 covers 95% of the total estimated cost ($70,330) of the replacement fire hose, nozzles, and water supply appliances. The district is responsible for the remaining 5% of the cost of the grant which will be approximately $3,349.05.
The Scioto Valley Fire District is grateful to the team at Ohio First Responder Grants for their assistance in writing this grant. The FY 2023 Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) Funding had an appropriation of $324 million with a projection of 2,000 awards. This is our 4th successful AFG award that ORFG has assisted the district with which has helped greatly reduce the burden to our taxpayers.
